HOW DO I CLEAN MY CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER?

"The dirtier it gets, the better it works." That's been our catchphrase since 1989. You really do not want to try and clean or rinse the California Car Duster until it is a last resort. For daily maintenance, simply shake out the car duster or clean it thoroughly with an air gun. The mop will discolor with continued use, but keep using the car duster as long as it is picking up the dust. When the car duster begins to push the dust you can try to rinse the mop with cool water and mild detergent in your garage sink and then let it air dry. Only do this as a final straw as rinsing the mop does risk pulling some of the baked in wax out of the mop. If you own a plastic handle California Car Duster, do not remove the mop from the handle when cleaning it. The mop head is stitched around the handle, so it is very difficult to reinstall after it has been removed (trust us). You can rinse the mop out in your garage sink and let it air dry.

If cleaning the mop does not rejuvenate the California Car Duster, then it is time for a new one.

MY CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER IS LEAVING STREAKS OR LINT ON MY VEHICLE. WHAT DO I DO?

This just means that the car duster mop is too hot or has some moisture in it. It is best to dust your vehicle in the morning or early evening when the vehicle's paint and/or the car duster are not hot. Any streaks on your vehicle's paint are easily removed with some detail spray.

If you have moisture in the car duster, you can wrap it in some newspaper for 1-2 days to remove the excess moisture or wax. Just place the mop in the newspaper strands down. Do not leave the duster and newspaper on a porous surface as the wax treatment can leave a residue.

Once in a while a duster has some lint left in it from cutting that doesn't get as thorough of a suctioned before packaging as it should. Shake the California Car Duster before and after each use to loosen any trapped fibers. You can also blow the mop with compressed air to remove lint. The lint will subside within a few uses. We also recommend using a garage vac to suck out some of the loose fibers at the base of the mop. That should eliminate the extra fibers that were trapped at production.

DO YOU OFFER A REPLACEMENT MOP HEAD FOR THE CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER?

We now offer a replacement mop for our wood handle 62442 California Car Duster. Our plastic handle California Car Dusters are only available as a complete set. Though easy to remove from the handle, the mop head on the plastic handle car duster is quite difficult to properly reinstall without the proper tooling on many of the car duster models.

The replacement mop heads for the 62442 car duster are only designed for car dusters sold within the last 5 years. If you have a 5+ year old car duster, then the replacement mop head might not properly fit on your car duster. Check out the specs on the product page.

DO I NEED TO STORE THE CAR DUSTER IN ITS CARRYING CASE?

Yes, we recommend keeping the California Car Duster in its carrying case when not in use. The mop is treated with a baked in wax. The wax can stain or leave behind a residue if left on fabrics, upholstery or furniture for an extended amount of time. Keeping the car duster in its bag will reduce the risk of this happening. This will also prevent the car duster from picking up any unneccesary dust or contaminents in your garage. We recommend storing the California Car Duster on a hook in your garage for best protection.

CAN YOU USE THE CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER ON AUTO GLASS?

Yes, the California Car Duster can be used on windshields and mirrors, but only for dust. If the windshield is too hot or has bug debris on it, the car duster can leave streaks.

CAN YOU USE THE CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER ON MATTE PAINT FINISHES?

Yes. The California Car Duster is safe for daily dusting of your matte or flat finish paint or wrap. We suggest using the same care you take when using microfiber towels on it. Gently sweep away light daily dust with little pressure on the car duster. Do not leave the car duster on your vehicle's finish as this can leave behind a waxy residue.

HOW DO I WRAP MY CAR DUSTER IN NEWSPAPER?

When attempting to remove excess wax from your car duster mop, place the car duster strands down on the newspaper. Wrap the newspaper around the mop and let it sit for 1-2 days. If you do not have newspaper, you can use packing paper or cardboard.

WHAT MAKES THE CALIFORNIA CAR DUSTER BETTER?

Most car dusters on the market use a sprayed in oil treament that simply does not last. The California Car Duster features a signature baked in wax treament for better performance and longevity. The process is costlier and takes more time, but it's the way we have been doing it since 1989. That's why we are the original car duster and still the best.
